PHANTOM 309
The Phantom is remote
controlled. I have been building it, then rebuilding it several times since
1987. I started with a Clod Buster which I painted like Excaliber.
Then I painted it like the 1st Carolina Crusher and it had a scissor
lift bed. (Sorry no pictures of that version) Then I bought a Bull
Head which I painted as Super Pete. Then I cut the Super Pete body in
half and the Carolina Crusher frame in half. I attached the rear
frame of Carolina to the rear of the Super Pete frame. I added a
second battery pack and the running gear for the 3rd axle to the
truck. I cut up my Lunch Box van body which was painted as Rollin'
Thunder, to build the sleeper. Then I bought another Bull Head to put
under the trailer. The 1st trailer was a car carrier for my models.
The second was a box trailer that I painted our 4x4 club name on the
side. These 2 trailers were 4 feet long making the whole rig 6 feet
long. I put the same frequency crystals in both receivers, one in the
cab and one in the trailer. The rig is 10 wheel drive, and 10 wheel
steered. There is a motor in every axle, 2 receivers, 3 speed
controllers, 3 battery packs, and 5 servos. The cab weighed 17 lbs.,
the car carrier trailer 43 lbs. and the box trailer 52 lbs. Top speed
was about 6 mph and batteries were lucky to last 5 min. It took me 6
months to build and make it steer properly with all wheel steering.
